Denmark wins world's top restaurant
Posted on Apr 28th 2010
With some unexpected dishes on its menu, the world's top restaurant Noma is not for the faint-hearted. Offering musk ox with smoke marrow or salsify and milk skin, the Copenhagen-based restaurant has overtaken Spain's El Bulli to win the top slot in the annual S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants awards.Noma's win is down to its 'cold climate cuisine' and focus on seasonal and local ingredients, many of which are not found outside the Nordic region, as well as its inspired dishes like radishes in edible soil. Meals can cost around £150 per head.
El Bulli, the winner for the past four years, dropped to second place, followed by one of the few UK entries, Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck in Bray, Oxfordshire - also famed for its exotic creations, including snail porridge and egg and bacon ice-cream - which picked up the Chef's Choice award.
